ACA Level 1 – Intro to SUP – June 14th, 8am-11am

Our comprehensive ACA certified standup paddleboard lesson covers essential paddling skills, safety techniques, and water knowledge to help you become a more confident and capable paddler:

What You’ll Learn in Level 1:

  • Equipment Basics
    Types of paddleboards, paddles, leashes, and personal flotation devices (PFDs)
  • Launching Techniques
    How to safely launch from both beaches and docks
  • Paddling Fundamentals
    Proper paddle sizing and grip
    Techniques for paddling while kneeling and standing
    How to switch paddling sides efficiently
  • Stroke Techniques
    Forward and reverse strokes
    Sweep turns and cross-bow turns
    Bracing and draw strokes for control and balance
  • Stance & Body Positioning
    Neutral and staggered stance variations
    When to kneel or sit for stability
  • Safety & Rescue Skills
    Paddle and tether tow methods
    Rescue techniques for injured or unresponsive paddlers
    Creating and following a float plan
  • Water Safety & Nautical Rules
    U.S. Coast Guard guidelines and local regulations
    Navigating shared waterways and multi-use zones

ACA Level 2 – Advanced SUP Skills

Take Your Standup Paddleboarding to the Next Level

Our Advanced SUP Skills Class is designed for paddlers who want to refine their technique, improve board control, and build confidence in more dynamic conditions. This hands-on session is led by experienced instructors and focuses on advanced maneuvers, stroke refinement, and enhanced rescue and safety skills.

Perfect for experienced paddlers looking to challenge themselves and level up their standup paddleboarding practice.

What You’ll Learn in Level 2:

  • Advanced Maneuvers
    Pivot turns and cross-stepping
    Shuffle stepping and weight transfer (nose to tail, rail to rail)
    Edging for better board control
  • Stroke Refinement
    Fine-tune your stroke: reach, catch, power, release, and return
    Corrective strokes while moving
    Bracing techniques (cross-tail, slap brace)
  • Safety & Rescue
    Towing with a tow belt
    Unresponsive paddler rescue to shore
  • Balance & Core Training
    On-board exercises to improve core stability and balance

Level 1 & 2 Class Details:

Length: 3 hours
Setting: Small group, hands-on instruction
All Equipment provided: paddleboard, paddle, PFD, leash
Taught by an ACA Level 2 Certified Instructor

Cost for Level 1 or 2 Class:

  • $90 pp

  • We provide life jackets AND leashes

  • We will not launch if weather is unsafe

  • We will not launch in high winds

  • Our staff is here to help, so ask them for help if you any questions

  • On water staff carry a tow rope, radio and first aid supplies

  • Remember sunscreen

  • Bring your own beverage

  • Waterproof bags, sunglass straps and other sundries are available at the shop for your convenience
